New research has discovered that 30 per cent of Brits confess to being "really worried" about their present financial situation - and "don't think they can cope much longer".
Price comparison website moneysupermarket.com questioned over 3,000 consumers and found that 53.6 per cent of respondents confessed to being concerned "to a certain extent".
This category have noticed their "monthly outgoings have increased" but "can still cover all the bills".
The 16 per cent who claim to "have no financial worries" are clearly in a small minority.
Tim Moss, head of loans and debt at moneysupermarket.com, is alarmed that "close to a third of Brits have obviously been really spooked by the budget".
As an example of how he believes the that the "victims" of the Budget include "people from all walks of life and income levels he pointed to the prospect that many Brits will "find their annual road tax as high as the value of their car as from next year".
He advised individuals to prioritise bills and "pay the essentials such as mortgage or rent first".
Employers' organisation the CBI said today that the UK economy will grow more slowly than predicted in 2008.
