Families Urged Not To Get Sentimental Over Debt
Britons have been advised not to let sentimentality get the better of them when it comes to tackling their debts.
A new study from YouGov found only a small proportion of parents sell their children’s toys once their offspring have left home.
This is despite the fact that 44 million working toys are thrown away each year, The Peoples Web-commissioned research found.
Tim Hayes, chief executive of The Peoples Web, advised that people should avoid getting sentimental about used toys and sell them on as one possible method of tackling their debts. He told Yorkshire Today: “With UK debt at an all-time high, parents need to weigh up whether sentimentality is really their top priority. Those with three or more children could potentially make a significant dent in their debt.” Mr Hayes added that though it can be quite difficult, it is a “staggering” price to pay for hanging on to such possessions instead of selling them on when one is in debt. An alternative method of tackling one’s outstanding repayments might be to take out a debt consolidation loan. These can reduce the amount of interest one pays as well as wrapping up payments to several creditors into one monthly fee.
