Birmingham debt management efforts given boost
Birmingham debt management attempts are to receive a boost through a new local project, it has emerged.
A government-backed campaign is to target the financially excluded in the West Midlands, with the launch party to be held in Birmingham.
The project aims to raise awareness of the availability of expert advice for those facing financial difficulty in the region.
Minister for work and pensions James Plaskitt said: “Too many people on low incomes don’t know how to get free money advice or affordable credit and remain on the margins of society.”
“This initiative will help people get out of a debt trap and underlines the government’s commitment to cut child poverty,” he added.
Mr Plaskitt claimed that by giving parents in Birmingham debt management advice, the likelihood that their children will face personal debt can be minimised.
Norwich Union echoed the suggestion this week, claiming that financial education should be offered to adults as well as children to ensure Britons do not experience a debt problem during retirement.
But for those living in Birmingham debt management could be aided by seeking expert advice.
