UK consumers ‘want authoritative debt advice’

Debt advice must be authoritative if it is to satisfy UK consumers, it has been suggested.

Clive Cowdery, chair of the Resolution Foundation, recently claimed that many Britons are unsure of where to turn for advice they can rely on.

His comments were made on BBC Radio Five Live’s Wake Up To Money programme.

“After the last ten years or so of history of the financial services sector’s involvement with people they want to see that there’s some stamp of authority on the advice that’s given,” he told the show.

“You might ask a family friend but if there’s no friends with that kind of experience then you are a bit stuck.”

He proposed that some 15 million UK consumers could be in doubt as to where to turn for debt advice.

Abbey recently urged the one in ten Britons who ask their friends for debt assistance to seek professional help.

Expert debt advice could prove useful for those wishing to establish a healthier financial situation.
