Look at ‘entire marketplace’ to save money

Article Category: Debt Management Help and Advice

Hard-pressed consumers struggling to keep their heads above the financial waters should look at the "entire marketplace" and seek out the best energy, insurance or personal finance provider, according to a price comparison website.

USwitch.com says that consumers "definitely need to do something" when it comes to finding a better deal.

Tim Wolfenden, from uSwitch, said that the fact that a large proportion of the population stay with the same provider, despite price increases, seems to indicate that they may find the whole switching process a bit of a hassle.

He goes on to say that the reason might be that people think that "pipes will be removed and metres will be removed", which is untrue, and that all suppliers are the same and there is no difference in price.

Mr Wolfenden added: "Consumers really need to understand how they can find a better deal, be it on price, or be it on the service or be it on something else that actually better compliments their lifestyle."

Consumer group Energywatch reported that around one in six Britons struggles to find the money to heat their homes properly and that 4.4 million householders suffer from fuel poverty.
