Going green ‘can slash cost of motoring’

Article Category: Debt Management Help and Advice

Anyone struggling to raise the finances needed to run a car because of debt problems or a bad credit history might consider going green.

Research by uSwitch.com, the price comparison website, revealed that environmentally-friendly cars can offer their drivers significant savings.

Fuel bills could fall by as much as £165 per year, while there is also a £125 annual saving on road tax up for grabs.

"A vehicle’s green credentials are fast becoming a major selling point when it comes to buying a new car," said Ashton Berkhauer, insurance expert at uSwitch.com.

"However, it is not simply a case of motorists blindly jumping on to the green bandwagon.

"With fuel prices soaring to a record high, motorists are increasingly becoming attracted to these fuel-efficient, lower-tax green vehicles, finding them to be kind on their pockets as well as on the environment," he added.

The number of green cars sold in Britain increased by 70 per cent last year, with uSwitch.com predicting that there could be close to 29,000 on the road by the end of 2008.
