Debt does not make grow heart fonder
Article Category: Debt Management Help and Advice
With Valentine’s Day upon us, millions of couples are counting the cost and wondering if getting into debt to buy gifts really did make the heart grow fonder.
The day is one of the most popular days of the year for couples to get engaged, with men, as tradition dictates, spending one month’s salary on a ring.
Other expensive occasions for partners, according to research from Halifax Credit Cards, include anniversaries.
The research reveals that on average love-birds are likely to spend between £40 and £60 each on celebrating an anniversary, although nearly 20 per cent will think nothing of spending over £100.
Adrian Bryant, from Halifax Credit Cards, comments: "Our research shows that Brits do have big hearts when it comes to Valentine’s Day but this doesn’t have to mean a broken wallet.
"By choosing a card with a substantial zero per cent deal, valentine spends needn’t attract any extra interest."
Cards are not the only way love-birds can help to fund expensive gifts as low-rate personal loans, which are still attractively priced despite credit crunch woes, are another option.
