Credit card fees ‘are too high’

Credit cards Transaction fees for debit and credit cards used abroad are too high, according to one expert.

Sean Tipton, spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents, believes that consumers are being charged too much for using their cards when overseas.

As such, holidaymakers who wish to use their cards abroad should consider other methods of making payments.

Mr Tipton said: “Since the introduction of ATMs it has made getting money out abroad so much easier.

“In the past you had to take travellers cheques, which is still a good idea for protection issues.”

He added that consumers thinking of using cards abroad should check with their bank for rates of charges first before considering which cards to use.

Applying the cost-conscious method when researching card products as one does when researching holidays, could save money he continued.

Consumers concerned about the level of repayments on their credit cards may wish to take out a debt consolidation loan, which ties up outstanding credit into one affordable monthly package.
