Male spending attitudes ‘dictated by debt’
The spending attitudes of British men have been affected by rising UK debt levels, reports suggest.
Bharat Book states that consumer expenditure dropped significantly after interest rates rose, as more people began to save.
This trend was particularly prominent among male consumers, who typically carry higher levels of debt and have greater concerns over repayments, the report adds.
It continues: “The impacts of both prolonged prosperity and the rise in the number of women entering the workplace have brought male dominance of ‘big ticket’ consumer spending to a new tipping point.
“Similarly, the growth in internet retailing has brought a reversal in the previous male dominance of this distribution chain.”
The report also found that women are more likely than men to shop online and that they more likely to live in households with no cars.
Consumers having problems with their spending habits may wish to take out a debt consolidation loan.
